STORIES OF ASIA — HR PEER BENCHMARKING DISCUSSION WORKSHEET An editable preparation sheet for comparing definitions and framing an evidence question. Use public or appropriately authorised information only; it is not a data-collection request or validated assessment. Bring a comparison card, not just a percentage Field | Clarify before comparing | Why the distinction matters Exits counted | Voluntary resignations, all departures, or another specified category? | An all-exit measure and a resignation-only measure answer different questions. Time basis | Which dates? Monthly average, cumulative quarter, year-to-date or full year? | The same percentage over different periods is not the same rate. Denominator | Which employee count and averaging method are used? | Growth, contraction and averaging choices can change the comparison. People covered | Which country, entity, role group and employment arrangements? | A company-wide average can conceal a different pattern within one group. Departure rules | How are transfers, contract endings and repeat departures handled? | The counting rules determine what the number actually represents. Source and treatment | What is the source, reference period, revision date and adjustment status? | A published adjusted series and a raw internal rate need careful interpretation. Ask peers about conditions, not just the winning initiative Instead of asking | Try this question What is your turnover target? | What problem were you trying to understand, and which group did you examine? Which retention programme worked? | What changed, what else changed at the same time, and how did you assess it? Why are your numbers better? | Are we using the same exit definition and time basis? Can we copy your approach? | Which conditions would need to hold for this to make sense in our setting? Does everyone in the sector do this? | What evidence extends beyond the organisations represented in this room?
